Premium translation, for when nuance matters

Translation is like putting together a puzzle, and the words are only some of the pieces. You also need to consider all the unwritten cues; I translate the unspoken, too. It’s especially important for audiovisual work, with a language as physical as Italian!

I’ve been in the subtitling game since 2018, so I’ve witnessed the stratospheric rise of streaming and on-demand media from inside the industry. But that’s not where it all started. When I moved to Italy back in 2007, I realised I wanted to be a translator and not a lawyer. So I changed my degree from Law to Italian and set about gaining experience and practising as much as possible.

I’ve translated all sorts of subjects over the years, which has helped me specialise in the areas I’m best at.

I provide voiceovers and subtitling for all industries, and written translations for tourism, food, and business. But I do more than just change words. I capture the essence of your message and bring it to life. This allows you to communicate with more people while simultaneously making your content and products more accessible.

My role is to help you translate your project from start to finish, including any quality assurance checks you choose. I’m there for as much or as little of the process as you need.

What’s the difference
between a translator and an interpreter?

I’m a translator, so I spend time poring over your project, researching, and carefully translating your message from Italian into English. An interpreter on the other hand translates spoken words, in real time. Far too fast for me, as a perfectionist I prefer to work methodically and consult my vast collection of language resources!

Professionalism with personality

I’m a professional, that goes without saying. But while I do deliver top-notch projects to deadlines, my focus isn’t just on the end result. When you choose me, I go all in on your project. I look at it from every possible angle and get to know its essence. For me, it’s not just about words, but about understanding your broader message, tone, and ideas. 

Some stereotypes are absolute rubbish, of course. But some are rooted in truth…I can’t deny life moves at a slower pace here in Italy. “Italian time” is definitely a thing. Luckily for you though, I grew up in the UK, where punctuality (and a healthy respect for a queue) was ingrained from an early age. Hah! I’m a perfectionist and I keep clients updated at every phase, prioritising communication throughout. As you’d expect, given communication is my bread and butter (or focaccia and olive oil, depending on the mood).

Subtitling and translation for dubbing

I offer subtitling, including closed captions and subtitles for the deaf and hard of hearing. I also translate and transcribe for dubbing. If you need a fresh pair of eyes on your project I can quality control other people’s work. We’ve all endured a badly-dubbed film, it’s so distracting. My instinct for timing helps massively with this task, so does my understanding of body language.

Voiceovers

One of the best parts about living in rural Italy is when someone says they can’t tell from my accent that I grew up in England. I don’t sound entirely native though, which is why I stick to English voiceovers on the most part. Whether in-person or virtually, I collaborate with a professional studio to record, mix and edit the files ready for you to use.

AI will never achieve the quality of translation I can.

It’s not a brag, it’s just impossible. AI can’t feel emotion, understand nuance, or instinctively learn and apply complex vernacular that’s constantly evolving in the wild. So, for human-focused translation, get in touch.
