Human-focused translation

Because communication
is so much more than words

I’m Stefanie Mellano, your experienced, qualified Italian-to-English translator. I take on all sorts of projects, my sweet spots being scripts, subtitles, and media translations. My background makes me especially well suited to translate projects where culture and context are key.

And if there’s ever been a language where culture and context are key, it’s Italian!

Because, more than just words, high-quality translation is an instinctive process. A great translator picks up on everything you want to get across, beyond what people are saying. I transform not just words but also ideas, tone and concepts into perfect English. As only a bilingual dual-native can. That’s why I’ve been brought into projects ranging from Ripley through to This World Can’t Tear Me Down.

So, make sure you choose a translator who looks at the whole picture, “expressive” hand gestures and all.

It’s great to be able to count on diligent professionals like you!

Why me?

I’m 50% Italian, 50% English, and 100% bilingual.

I grew up just outside London and in 2007 I swapped bus lanes and grey skies for a small village at the foot of snow-capped mountains.

I’ve lived in each country for years, and been immersed in both cultures. I even think and dream in both English and Italian, so I’m not your average translator.

As well as being a natural speaker of both languages, I’ve studied Italian, translation and subtitling formally. I’ve got a BA (Hons) in Italian and I’m an Associate Member of the Institute of Translation & Interpreting (ITI) and a Professional Member of SUBTLE – the Subtitlers’ Association. I find it gives my clients that extra layer of reassurance that not only can I speak the language, I know how to use it in different contexts. And my skills and credentials have been vetted and approved by industry professionals, for your peace of mind.

My deep-rooted understanding of the Italian way of life, the language, nuances (and all the fun parts, like slang and wild gestures) mean I can look at a translation holistically. I don’t just crank words through a dictionary like a robot. I translate the dynamic emotion and storyline, to make sure your translation captures what’s really being communicated.
